Mailbox Costume

Time: Two hours tops - even if you're lazy. It's fun to make with friends!

Effort: Quick and easy - no sewing required

Materials:

  • Large box for body (from grocery store)
  • Smaller box for head, to be used as the pull-down opening to the mailbox
  • Dark blue paint (spray paint is quick, but any paint will do)
  • Red reflecting tape
  • White reflecting tape
  • Black permanent marker or black paint for lettering
  • Tool for cutting box

Instructions: Get a box that will fit over your body and preferably down to your knees. Cut a hole for your head and two on the side for arms. Box should be open at the bottom. Paint the box to look like one of those postal service mailboxes on the corner in your neighborhood. For the headpiece (opening for mailbox), tape on the smaller box, making a pull-down slot for opening. You can leave this part slightly open for visibility.

Tips: Construct your own candy-collecting bag by using an old white pillowcase made to look like a letter with a stamp on it and address it to yourself.
