Cloud or Angel in a Cloud Costume

Time: 2-3 hours

Effort: Advanced — sewing definitely required

Materials:

  • Thick white poster board
  • Fabric that is light, gauzy, and "cloud-like"
  • Pencil and scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • White shoes
  • Blue or white hair spray
  • Makeup (white or blue lipstick, eye shadow, and glitter)
  • White gloves
  • White sweater/sweatshirt or sweatsuit
  • Halo (optional)

Instructions: Wrap the cloud material around your child's waist to make a skirt. Cut it to an appropriate length, sew it up the side, and hem it. (Make sure you leave enough room for her to get in and out of it.)

Drape the rest of the material over your child's head, and mark an opening for the head. Cut where you've marked it, and also cut a hole on each side for her arms. (Make sure this will fit over a sweatsuit or other warm clothing, if need be.)

Draw and cut out a cloud shape from the poster board. Trace that shape onto a second piece and cut it out. Using the leftover cloud material, create straps to go over your child's shoulders and under your arms, and attach the cloud shapes to the straps with a few stitches.

Apply white makeup to your child's face. Add blue or white streaks to her hair. Don't forget the glitter!

If she wants to be an angel emerging from the cloud, just add a halo!
