Clifford the Big Red Dog Costume

Follow these simple instructions to make a Clifford the Big Red Dog costume for Halloween.

Clifford the Big Red Dog Costume

Time: 1 hours

Effort: More difficult — some sewing required

Materials:

  • Red sleeper pajamas or red thermal underwear
  • Red fabric
  • Scissors, needle, and thread
  • Stapler
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Red construction paper or poster board
  • Black face makeup
  • Red face makeup (optional)

Instructions: For the tail, cut two curved, triangular-shaped pieces of fabric about 8" long. Sew the right sides together, leaving the base of the triangle open for stuffing. Turn the right side out, stuff firmly, and sew the end shut. Have your child put on the sleeper, and gently (!) pin the tail where you'd like it to be. Remove the sleeper, and sew the tail on securely. (You know it's going to be pulled on at least once!)

Cut large ears from the poster board. Cut a strip of poster board to fit around your child's head. Staple the strip so that it will fit snugly on your child's head. Staple the ears to the headband. The red face paint is optional, but be sure to paint the nose black!
